All new laptops come with AC adapters. Adapters are used for charging laptop batteries and also used to supply power directly to the laptop. There are
occasions which require consumers to buy a replacement AC adapter. Most laptop users travel with their laptops, for those travelling to foreign countries
in Europe, the US or even Asia, require an AC adapter that takes 100-240 volts input and outputs from 15 volts to 20 volts.
Let us present 3 easy steps to pick the right laptop AC adapters.
- Finding the right "tips" - Different laptops have different connectors. You need the right tip for your laptop. Simply, laptop AC adapters comprise of 2 ends. One end is a male power outlet, that you connect to a mains socket. The other end is called a "TIP" which you plug into the "DC IN" in your laptop. Your laptop won't work if the wrong tip is inserted. You can only use the "matching Tips". Warning : DO NOT try to force tips into laptops.
- Finding the right "output voltage" - Different laptops were designed to consume power varied by equipment such as CD-Rom, LCD size, CPU make and CPU speed. Your laptop requires the correct voltage in. Normally you should only use laptop AC adapters that have the correct output that matches the voltage input of your laptop.
- However with an auto switching universal laptop charger, you just have to make sure that the laptop charger is capable of providing power at, or over, the required amount your laptop requires. For example: If your laptop needs 17.5V in and an auto switching universal laptop charger has an output voltage of 15v – 20v then it will charge your laptop.
You can easily locate your laptop voltage. Mostly, input voltage is printed on the bottom of your laptop. You also can check your laptop manual.
